The City of Edinburgh Council has fined vehicles that don’t meet the emission standards in its Low Emission Zone since 1 June 2024. The zone operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, using number-plate cameras; check your vehicle and the boundary on the council’s site. Hire cars are usually compliant, but check.
