The back story

About Glasgow: the great Victorian city

Glasgow is under an hour from Edinburgh by ScotRail. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum has welcomed visitors since 1901, in Glasgow Life’s words; the Burrell Collection, in Pollok Country Park, reopened with new galleries; and Glasgow Cathedral, looked after by Historic Environment Scotland, keeps its Gothic architecture and atmospheric crypts.

Getting there

ScotRail from Waverley or Haymarket to Glasgow Queen Street; check times on scotrail.co.uk.

The museums

Kelvingrove in the West End, the Burrell Collection in Pollok Country Park, and Glasgow Cathedral in the old town.

ScotRail runs frequent trains from Waverley to Glasgow Queen Street.

Our advice: give the Burrell half a day of its own.
